Why the SNAP extension.

The federal government stopped the temporary extra covid-19 SNAP benefits on March 2, 2023. The state of Massachusetts has extended the SNAP program for an extra 3 months following the federal shortcoming to the program. This is intended to prevent abrupt shock to the beneficiaries.

Who to benefit

Everyone who previous benefited from the previous program. The state will provide an extra covid-19 SNAP for 3 months starting April 7 for March benefits.

Eligible household receive Snap benefits from the state for continuity of food supply including health fruits amidst rising prices. During the covid-19 pandemic this program was boosted by the federal government to offset pandemic stress to access to food.

What is extra benefit

40% of the difference between the normal and and highest SNAP amount for the family possible.

For example:

Normal Snap benefit: $ 600

Maximum eligible Snap benefit: $800

Difference: $ 200

40% of $200 = $80

Extra benefits: $680
